Simulation environment

The base installation is made up off a solar installation with water collectors and an absorption chiller. The meteorological data used have been obtained of the program Meteonorm® with the format TMY. [1]. The simulations have been executed with the program TRNSYS v16 [2], that offers a simulation environment mainly focused to solar installations in particular and energetic ones in general.

2. Loads description

For the simulations, they have been modelled the loads of a real installation, the ones of the facilities that the Research Centre CARTIF has in Boecillo (Valladolid). On the fig. 1 can be seen inside the box in red the air-conditioned zone in which the working hours are from 7:00 to 15:00. The area of the air-conditioned zone is 200 m2, and has the distribution shown in the next figure:

Fig. 1. Plan of the building with the air-conditioned zone.

Based on a physical model of the part of the building to be used and an estimation of the internal loads, it was developed a model with TRNBUILD ® of the zone that was going to be conditioned.

The maximum load obtained was 7 kW for refrigeration, being this the power of the chiller chosen, and for weekends the result obtained was 3 kW. Subsequently they were compared the data obtained by means of the simulation with those measured on the real facility and they were extremely similar.

Evaluating the maximum power on the surface, it’s obtained a value of 36 kW/m2. Note that this value corresponds with the ones obtained within the project SACE [3] for this kind of locales (30 kW/m2).
