In October Tesla announced several new features and options for the Model S electric sedan going forward. This means there’s a whole slew of outdated showroom and loaner cars racking up mileage as orders pour in for the latest and greatest Model S. To make room for the new vehicles, Tesla is doubling the discount offered to buyers of these low-mileage testers.

Green Car Reports says that one recent buyer of a 60 kWh 2014 Tesla Model S was able to take delivery of his car for $18,000 under list price. While Tesla has always offered a 1% discount per month of age on its test cars, and an additional $1 for every mile driven. Tesla recently doubled that discount though, which allowed one buyer to get a well-equipped 60 kWh Model S that listed at $83,000 for just $66,000. And that’s before the $7,500 Federal tax rebate, bringing the effective price to $58,500. That’s a total savings of over $25,000 on one of the most sought-after cars on the planet right now.

Rather than move inventory, this move is meant to get every dollar Tesla can out of its fleet of aging vehicles, so it can roll out new testers equipped with the Dual Motor all-wheel drive and semi-autonomous Autopilot features. It does the company no good to have outdated vehicles to try and wow customers into buying one for themselves. There are dozens of stores spread out across the U.S., and each store generally has at least a two or three testers/loaners on site.

This is also true for service centers that need to loan customers cars during service visits, meaning there’s probably a couple of hundred discounted cars of all colors and option packages up for grabs. Once word of this discount gets out though, these cars aren’t likely to last long. If you don’t mind driving an “outdated” car that’s got a few miles and isn’t exactly personalized, you can save literally tens of thousands of dollars off the sticker price.

For the fiscally-savvy Tesla fan, this could your best chance yet to get a Model S at a serious discount.
