Though the BMW i3 has been on the global market for less than a year in most places, aftermarket tuners have responded with unexpected gusto in modifying the small German EV. Studie Japan and 3D Design teamed up to take on the BMW i3, painting it an impossible-to-ignore Fire Orange and giving it a sportier flair to liven the look up.

The intense color choice comes from BMW’s own palette, and the hue spread to the interior as well, accenting the Recaro racing seats and the dashboard as well. And while the Japanese-market i3 is 20 mm lower to the ground than other versions, Studie Japan lowered it a further 30 mm so that it practically scrapes the ground. That makes the i3 look faster, without actually making it *go* faster.

A new front spoiler also adds to the lowered look, while a new roof spoiler and front grille ties together the aggressive look, though the rest of the bodywork appears mostly unchanged. No modifications were made to the performance either, though that seems to me to be the next logical step; for now other tuners like Eve.Ryn are also just sticking to aesthetic changes, though that’s bound to change sooner or later.

The Studie Japan take on the BMW i3 is hard to miss, but it hasn’t gone overboard with the modifications either, though I wouldn’t call the look tasteful, it does fit into BMW’s “Ultimate Driving Machine” mission. That should help BMW grow its share of the market as it fully embraces the potential for electric vehicles. Now how about a BMW i3 M?
