Ford has started production of its all-new Ford Mondeo Hybrid, the first hybrid electric car built and sold by Ford in Europe.
The vehicle is well known to us Amercians; the Mondeo is none other than the Fusion offered to the North American market.
Ford of Europe said the Mondeo Hybrid combines a specially-developed 2.0-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor and 1.4 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. The combination is rated in Europe at 67.3 imperial mpg (combined), reaching 100.9 mpg for urban driving and 99 g/km CO2 emissions.

First launched in 1993, the Mondeo has since sold in over 1.4 million units across the UK. The European hybrid model is produced at Ford’s Valencia, Spain, plant.
Ford of Europe added the Mondeo Hybrid offers pricing competitive with Mondeo diesel powertrain variants, delivering on Ford’s promise to give fuel-efficiency-minded customers the power of choice.
In the U.S., Ford is the second largest manufacturer of hybrids, having already produced a total of 400,000 vehicles since their introduction.
The Ford Mondeo Hybrid will be available in the UK this December as a four-door sedan starting at £24,995, or the same as its 2.0-liter diesel Mondeo Titanium Powershift five-door equivalent.
