The 2016 Chevy Volt is slated to debut at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, but a lucky group of reporters and Volt fans were given a sneak peak of the Volt yesterday, including a look at the new face of GM’s plug-in halo car.

These pictures come from a post over at the GM-Volt.com forums by user Taser54, who was apparently among those invited to the sneak preview. While the GM didn’t talk tech specifications, these select few were allowed to see the Volt in all its unbridled glory in a room where cell phones were confiscated. These sneak peek pics came from another room, where cells weren’t snatched apparently.

What we do know though is that GM has seriously revised the front end of the Volt, bringing it more inline with the standard corporate nose found on the rest of the Chevy lineup. The headlights are very Malibu-esque, and another viewer who was there, Jeff N, says that the design language is less goofy and more of an evolution of the original Volt’s design, though having signed a non-disclosure agreement, he couldn’t go into too much detail.

However, another viewer did go into detail in a post over at MyChevroletVolt.com, where it’s said the goofy overlong roof antenna has been replaced by a legit shark fin-style antenna, and the stubby back end is gone as well.

There’s also talk that the 2016 Volt will boast 50 miles of electric driving range and 5 seats instead of four (though the middle seat may only hold an infant car seat), but we’ll have to wait until the January debut to find out for sure. With a billion miles of driving experience to draw on, GM needs to get the next Volt right to remain a player in the plug-in market. To help the 2016 Volt resignate with consumers, a new user-friendly GPS-based charging system and 5 modes of operation depending on driver preferences.

When you add this picture of the front end to the other images from GM and spy photographers, we start to get a clearer picture of what the 2016 Chevy Volt will look like…and it’s looking pretty good in my opinion, but what do you think?
